Accessing your website files couldn't be easier. This guide will take you through uploading and downloading your website files using Filezilla.
This tutorial specifically focuses on Filezilla, an open source client. The main details are provided below:
- Host: fpt.yourdomain.com
- Logontype: Normal
- User: Username created in manager
- Password: Password that was created through manager
1.Download the Filezilla client located here, and install it.
2. Once installed, open Filezilla (Start, All Programs, Filezilla FTP Client, Filezilla) and proceed to the main Filezilla screen.
3. There are two ways to connect using FTP access. The first is by simply typing the details in the boxes. Under host type “ftp.yourdomain.com” (it would be provided by your Administrator). Type your username and password in the other boxes and click “Quick connect”.
4. The second method is slightly more difficult, but saves the information for next time. In Filezilla, proceed to File, File Manager (or use Cntrl S). You will get the following screen: 5. Next to the Host box, type “ftp.yourdomain.com”. Click the Logontype drop down menu and select “Normal”. Type your Username and password in the correct areas. Add comments if you need to. 6. Click Connect, and then OK. You now have access to your documents on our server. To modify these documents, you can follow these instructions: 1. The FTP folders on your server will look the same as they will on your computer. Find the files you want to upload by navigating (clicking on the appropriate folders) the menu of the left. The menu on the right is your server. 2. Once you have found the file you wish to upload, choose the folder you want it uploaded to on the left. It is good practice to put all your images in one place, as I have done here. 3. Upload the file by double clicking on it. A small box at the bottom will show the file transfer. 4. If you need to edit any of your web pages, there are (again) two ways of doing it. You can either; change the file on your computer and upload it again, or right click on the file and select View/ Edit: 5. Edit the file as you usually would and save your changes. Go back to Filezilla to be presented with the following window. If you wish to delete the local file (the one on your computer) tick the box and select “Yes”. It will upload the new file for you. This tutorial would have taught you the basics of using Filezilla as your FTP manager. If you have any problems using your client or making an account, please contact us. |
